‘Witcher 3’ Game Director Confirms No Multiplayer, Quick-Time Events or DRM

CD Projekt RED has confirmed The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will not include multiplayer, Quick-Time Events or DRM.

In a interview with Forbes, Konrad Tomaszkiewicz from CD Projekt RED spoke regarding Witcher staying multiplayer-free.”The game will be an epic, story driven, single player, open world RPG experience” explaining CD Projekt RED “strongly feel that this final saga of Geralt has no place for meaningful multiplayer.”

Regarding Quick-Time Events, Tomaszkiewicz acknowledged their previous experience’s with the feature and the company felt it wasn’t worth of a redo.

“In my opinion,” Tomaszkiewicz feels Quick-Time Event’s “didn’t fit this type of gaming experience and usually frustrated players. There is a small number of games where it is fun, like, for example, in the Uncharted series, where you don’t even realize that you’ve just finished a QTE sequence. And I think that only this way of using QTE has any kind of future in games.”

Tomaszkiewicz lastly described the companies stance on DRM, which has become a very hot topic in the games industry as of late.

“In my opinion, DRM is the worst thing in the gaming industry. It’s limiting our rights to play games owned by us. Let’s imagine that you have a game that requires internet connection to prove that you actually bought it. What if you lose your connection because of your internet provider? You can’t play anymore.”

Tomaszkiewicz also recognised some people don’t have access to the internet, “It is worth mentioning that many people in Poland or even in the US and other countries still don’t have an internet connection or have a very slow one. I was in such a situation once and I really didn’t understand why I couldn’t play games that I had bought. I believe that as long as people feel that companies are cheating them by selling games they cannot play freely, limiting their rights, and making unfair DRM, then they will fight against that.”

CD Projekt RED continues to impress with their companies mindset for The Witcher 3, are you excited to see this finished product? Would you also prefer other companies avoiding multiplayer where unnecessary?
