The Absence of Metal Gear Rising on Vita

Kojima Productions has revealed today that their latest title Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance developed by Platinum Games cannot appear on the PlayStation Vita, this hack and slash spin-off of the Metal Gear franchise cannot be replicated on the Vita’s performance power.

Creative producer of Kojima Productions, Yuji Korekado told Eurogamer that there were worry’s that Sony’s handheld would not be able to cope with the in-depth cutting system. This mechanic allows players to systematically cut their enemies in multiple directions, fearing that the Vita would not be able to perform the way the system was intended.

It Slices, It Dices

“As of now we aren’t considering a Vita version,” Korekado has said, “The reason is one of the main appeals of Metal Gear Rising is this option of the free cut. That requires a lot of hardware power, which is only possible with the power of a PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360. So as of now, we haven’t contemplated bringing it to handheld consoles.”

The free cut system is one of the main features of the game itself, there has even been challenges built within the game to test the way players are able to take down and incapacitate their enemies. “We know some previous Metal Gear titles there have been some challenges, like having no kills, complete stealth. We are putting challenges in the game. For example, there is one challenge where you have to go through the game just by defeating the enemies dealing the least amount of damage possible, perhaps by cutting just one limb.” Korekado explained.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance was recently given a release date at Gamescom last week, it will be releasing on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC on February 19 2012 in America, February 21 in Europe and February 22 in the UK.
