Rumour: Sony Considering Used Games DRM

Geoff Keighley has spoken regarding Sony’s intentions of introducing a digital rights management for the sale of used games.

Speaking on an episode of Bonus Round TV, Keighley stated his sources believe Sony is thinking about introducing a DRM feature. This topic has been hot on people’s minds since the reveal of Xbox One, with neither Sony or Microsoft confirming they will not feature DRM of some kind.

Larry ‘Major Nelson’ Hyrb took to his own blog recently, trying to clarify Microsoft’s used game plans.

“The ability to trade in and resell games is important to gamers and to Xbox. Xbox One is designed to support the trade in and resale of games. Reports about our policies for trade in and resale are inaccurate and incomplete. We will disclose more information in the near future.”

This is one topic many hope will be clarified at this year’s E3. With strong negative feedback towards Microsoft’s rumoured used-games DRM, it will interesting to see how both companies handle the situation.
