Indie Games Category Coming to a Vita Near You
Sony has announced that an Indie Games category will be coming to the PlayStation Vita Store, which was a feature that was included in the PlayStation 3 Store last month.
The PlayStation Blog revealed the feature to help Vita owners discover the large array of indie titles on their handheld. Sony also released a video showcasing some of the unique titles already available, and those coming in the foreseeable future.
Hotline Miami will be the first title to launch in this category, which is now available on Vita and PlayStation 3. Over the coming months over 50 titles will be added to the category, including Spelunky, Flower, Hohokum and many more in the future. These titles will join the likes of Guacamelee!, Sound Shapes and Thomas Was Alone, with a total of 53 games in the category at launch.
Sony has made every intention to continue supporting indie developers on Vita, PlayStation 3 and their upcoming PlayStation 4. Announcing a range of indie titles coming to the next generation platform at E3 this year, and Sony’s Jim Ryan stating his appreciation for indie developers.
“We feel it’s a very important part of the PlayStation 4 ecosystem, to bring in these new, fresh, exciting development talent, you know small teams doing stuff quickly, quite cheap, but bringing some really cool, fun stuff then we want it on the platform. And we are going to make it as easy as we can for these people to come to PlayStation.”
