‘Guitar Hero’ Founders Creating Fitness Gaming Platform

RedOctane founders and brothers behind the successful Guitar Hero franchise, Kai and Charles Huang, have announced they will launch a new interactive fitness company.

The company is Blue Goji and includes Coleman Fung, a philanthropist and founder of OpenLink. The company’s goal is to transform the experience of cardio exercise through immersive gameplay, personal fitness goals and creating a social workout experience with friends.

“Our goal is to help people lead healthier and more active lives by providing anyone across all fitness levels with a fun way to work out, one that is accessible and compelling to use,” said Kai Huang, Blue Goji co-founder and CEO. “With Blue Goji, we’re developing a platform to support a variety of entertainment content that enables people to immerse themselves in their workout routines for a more enjoyable and social experience.”

The Blue Goji platform will work in unison with tablets and smartphones on cardio equipment such as treadmills, exercise bicycles, and elliptical machines. It does this via a clip-on tracker, twin bands with four buttons which attaches to the handlebars of the machines, and two batons for runners to attach the bands too; and is entirely powered by Bluetooth.

The platform is open to other developers, including their own in-house development teams. With the first bundle of accessories to be released for Android and iOS later this year, though no confirmation of price of software has been announced.

Currently undergoing private user testing, the hope is to make cardio exercise routines as entertaining and rewarding as possible.
