Fallout 4 Taking Place in Boston?
Rumours have been circling today that the next Fallout game will take place in Boston, Fallout is an popular open world RPG franchise set in an apocalyptic wasteland. Over on the popular website Reddit, one of their anonymous users suggests that scouting is currently underway at MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology).
Fallout coming to Boston?
“The rumors are true, Fallout 4 will take place in Boston,” was posted by the user in question “In case you haven’t heard, Bethesda has recently been scoping out and researching Boston. They also have a strong connection to MIT.” The user has made sure to try and cover up his identity stating he “may or may not be an MIT employee”and “that’s really all I can say for fear of losing my job.”
This rumour falls in line with Fallout lore, The Commonwealth is the Fallout universe’s version of Massachusetts which has been spoken about in previous Fallout titles. In Fallout 3’s side quest ‘The Replicated Man’, the player is introduced to a Dr. Zimmer who has traveled from The Commonwealth, which he states is a “war-ravaged quagmire of violence and despair”. He also notes that his fellow doctors have been creating androids who have now escaped and are running wild. Zimmer also makes reference to The Institute, which very well be a future version of MIT itself.
Bethesda has already declined to comment on the rumour of this Boston setting, though the lore of the franchise and these rumours suggest that this could definitely be a strong possibility. With The Commonwealth playing such a big part in the universe, could androids play an even bigger part in the story of Fallout 4?
Fallout 3 was released back in 2008, a follow-up the the original Fallout PC titles. Taking place in the vicinity of Washington DC and later Maryland and Pittsburgh through several expansion packs. Following Fallout 3 was Fallout: New Vegas, developed by Obsidian in 2010 this game was set around the future war-torn version of Nevada.
