EA Announces ‘Need For Speed: Rivals’ Coming to Current & Next-Gen
Electronic Arts has announced Need for Speed: Rivals, being developed on the Frostbite 3 game engine.
EA’s latest studio Ghost Games will be working in partnership with Criterion Games, bringing the intense rivalry between cops an racers to a stunning open-world environment. Players will be able to player as either the cops or the racer, with each side providing unique challenges, rewards and consequences. The racer’s goal is to become infamous, taking risks behind the wheel and escaping pursuers on video for the world to see.
The more cops the player successfully evades, the more Speedpoints they collect which will enable the ability to unlock new cars and items. Players will be able to raise the stakes after each race, in hopes to earning more Speedpoints and becoming a more valuable target. Cops on the hand, must work together as a team rising through the ranks of the Police Force with every successful bust. Achieving higher ranks will gain access to new police cars, with powerful pursuit technology.
For the first time in seven years Ferrari will also return to the Need for speed franchise, including the F12berlinetta.
At Need for Speed: Rivals core is the AllDrive system, this new feature allows players to seamlessly transition from single player, to playing with friends. Friends will be able to enter and exit races on-the-fly, creating a world where no two races will be the same.
“The Need for Speed franchise has been an industry leader bringing social competition to the forefront in games,” said Marcus Nilsson, Executive Producer, Ghosts Games. “For the first time, players will have the freedom to seamlessly go from single player to co-op to multiplayer. In Need for Speed Rivals we are creating one game experience with one progression, where the freedom to play with friends is more fluid and accessible than ever before.”
Need for Speed: Rivals will also feature all-new and improved features, Redview County will be brought to life with next-generation details, Autolog will allow players to compare statistics and challenge their friends, drivers will be able to customise their ride with fresh paint-jobs, customer license plates, rims and performance upgrades. While Rivals introduces 11 upgradeable gadgets including turbo boosts, jammers, EMP’s for racers and shockwaves, roadblocks and helicopters for cops.
Players who pre-order Need for Speed: Rivals will receives the Ultimate Cop Pack at no additional costs. The pack offers players exclusive powerful items including the Nissan GT-R Black Edition cop car, advanced pursuit technology and a custom livery.
Need for speed: Rivals will release November 19 on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. With PlayStation 4 and Xbox One releases occurring later this year.
