E3 2015: Sony Still Not Looking to Introduce Backwards Compatibility to PS4
Despite having an impressive lineup of games during its E3 conference this week, one of the biggest announcements to come from Microsoft’s show was the announcement of backwards compatibility coming to Xbox One.
Many believed that this announcement would soon see Sony fire back with a similar announcement for the PlayStation 4, unfortunately this doesn’t seem to be the case.
Sony Computer Entertainment head Shuhei Yoshida spoke with Polygon, with his statement regarding the announcement seemingly shattering the hopes of Sony fans wanting to experience backwards compatibility on the PlayStation 4.
“The announcement didn’t change, I don’t think we will change our approach. The PlayStation 4 doesn’t have backward compatibility.”
“Backward compatibility is hard,” Yoshida said. “I won’t say we’ll never do it, but it’s not an easy thing to do. If it was easy we would have done that.”
Microsoft has since revealed the backwards compatibility update will be made available by 2015’s conclusion, with 100 games available. Microsoft has also stated more games will be added with time, and games only need to be approved by publishers before being made available on Xbox One.
