E3 2013: Used Game Restrictions on PlayStation 4 ‘Up to Publishers’

Sony’s Jack Tretton has confirmed any digital rights management for PlayStation 4 used games, will be up to the game publishers discretion.

Speaking with GTTV Tretton stated, “The DRM decision for third-party games will be up to publishers.”. Meaning online passes included in certain games could definitely still work in the PlayStation 4 eco-system, it will be up to the publisher to decide if they will include these in their software.

EA has recently stated they will be removing online passes from their future titles, yet other publishers will definitely be able to use these models as they see fit.

These options have been in-place with previous PlayStation 3 software, which is where the differentials between Xbox One and PlayStation 4 come to light.
