E3 2013: Super Smash Bros. Developer Diary Reveals New Information
Nintendo has released a a Super Smash Bros. Developer Diary, where the Director of Super Smash Bros. Masahiro Sakurai gives further information on their upcoming Nintendo fighter.
Sakurai explained the Nintendo 3DS version of Smash Bros. will feature a unique art style with characters featuring a bold outline, this was to help players find characters within the confines of the smaller 3DS screen. The Wii U version however features an emphasis on primary colours, which looks striking in high definition. It was also confirmed the 3DS version will feature stages from handheld titles such as Super Mario 3D Land, while the Wii U version will feature stages that resemble console experiences.
During the Diary we are also given summaries of the new characters and additional information to the changes made to previous characters. Bowser will now stand in a more upright position compared to his Brawl iteration, his move speed has also been increased making him a powerful character. Kid Icarus has been recreated to mirror his Kid Icarus: Uprising iteration, and Samus has been recreated to look similar to her Other M counterpart.
Sakurai explained new character The Villager’s move-set will emphasise collecting, he has the ability to collect items that are thrown at him that can be then used against his opponents. The Villager is also able to dig his opponent into the ground, setting up a strong combination attack with his bowling ball. The recently announced Megaman will mostly avoid close and personal attacks, instead focusing on his Buster to shoot enemies from a distance. He has also been given several abilities from various boss fights he has encountered in his past, which allow him to use fire, blade and leaf based attacks.
In this video we were also introduced to a new character, the Wii Fit Trainer. The character will posses attacks based upon the fitness manoeuvres she used in Wii Fit, which will allow her to use her style and grace to defeat her opponents.
