‘Driveclub PlayStation Plus Edition’ Available Tomorrow

After a long delay, the Driveclub PlayStation Plus Edition will start arriving for PlayStation Plus members to download on PlayStation 4 on Thursday, June 25.

The announcement was made by Sony Worldwide Studios head Shuhei Yoshida on the PlayStation Blog. Yoshida explained that all players will have access to the offline mode of Driveclub, but the online portion will slowly roll out around the world in order to avoid the same server issues that plagued Driveclub‘s original release last year.

“We’ve spent a long time preparing for this launch after some difficult and unexpected set-backs,” said Yoshida. “To make absolutely certain that all players have the smoothest and most stable experience possible we are going to be duly cautious about how we release the game this time around.

“Starting on Thursday, all PlayStation Plus members can download Driveclub PS Plus Edition and begin playing the offline mode. Also starting Thursday, we will be rolling out online access to the Driveclub PS Plus Edition and will steadily bring more and more players online while continuously ensuring that all game systems are running smoothly. We know that this might be frustrating after your extra wait already, but hope you can understand that we are taking extra precautions to protect your experience when you do get online. We want to make sure we don’t overload the servers as we invite millions of PS Plus members to download the game tomorrow.

“We have to take this precaution because Driveclub connectivity is demanding for a multiplayer game, with countless ever-growing social connections across clubs, challenges, multiplayer, and hundreds of thousands of dynamic leaderboards and activity feeds.”

PlayStation Plus members wanting to know the full information on when the online portion of Driveclub will be made available for them should visit the official website here. Yoshida also stated that the planned Driveclub companion app is still happening and will “come after”.

The Driveclub PlayStation Plus Edition was originally announced in 2013, before Driveclub was delayed until a 2014 release. Due to Driveclub‘s original server issues at launch the PlayStation Plus Edition was delayed “until further notice”. Evolution Studios originally stated the Driveclub PlayStation Plus Edition would include 11 tracks, 10 cars, and access to every game mode; one would assume this is still the content that will be available come tomorrow.
