Copies of Resident Evil 6 Sold Were Stolen
Last week copies of Resident Evil 6 appeared on sale in Poland, many thought this was an error on Capcom and the game retailer’s part. However Capcom has now officially confirmed these copies of Resident Evil 6 were stolen.
These copies were the German PlayStation 3 version of Resident Evil 6; these copies were available for purchase from a game retailer based in Poznan, a small city located in Poland.
One of the stolen copies in question
This matter has been addressed by Capcom in a statement which reads as follows, “Capcom is currently undertaking a thorough investigation into reports that Resident Evil 6 is being sold ahead of its official October 2 release date. At this time, all we can add is that it would appear this unfortunate incident is limited to a small quantity of stolen copies of the German USK PlayStation 3 version of the game.”
The amount of copies stolen and then sold to the public is unknown, or even what will happen to those innocent customers that stumbled upon purchasing a copy from the games retailer in question. One copy has found its way on eBay, the seller claiming to be one of these customers who “bought the game legally”.
The punishment for those found playing these unreleased games has not been confirmed yet, but it is always risky to play a leaked game ahead of its launch. Battlefield 3 was one of the most recent titles to be leaked, when it was offered on a popular torrent site. However no one was punished, due to the huge amount of people who were involved in downloading the torrent.

Two legends, one game
With gamertags and online playing being as popularized as it is these days, it’s much easier for companies to track those who have been playing the game and punish accordingly. In 2007 Halo 3 was leaked online, this huge leak caused Microsoft to crack the whip on the gamers involved. The punishment handed down to the Xbox Live accounts involved meant that they were banned until the year 9999, so my advice is to stay away from putting Resident Evil 6 in your disc tray just yet.
Were you one of the lucky (Unlucky) ones to score a copy of Resident Evil 6? Or are you going to wait until it’s released that is less than a month away?
