Bethesda Explains Why ‘Fallout 4’s Playable Character Has a Voice
Fallout veterans would have noticed a new feature during Bethesda’s E3 showcase of Fallout 4 – the main protagonist can now speak.
Since the reveal many Fallout fans have either loved or hated the new addition. Following the Bethesda E3 conference Director of Bethesda Game Studios Todd Howard, was asked about the new feature and why the choice was made to add voice to Fallout 4‘s hero.
“If you take a look at how stories are being told and a lot of them have a voiced character so if you weren’t looking at our games before, you would expect the character to be voice,” said Howard. “Our main anxiety with doing a voiced character is finding the right voices. We have two great voice actors doing the male and female [characters] and they have been fabulous and also how much time they had since we did not wanted to hold back any of our writing. They have been been recording stuff for the last two years.”
The choice to give the Fallout 4 playable character a voice has not been taken lightly, as Howard has confirmed that over 13,000 lines of dialog have been recorded for Fallout 4.
So what do you think? Are you happy that Fallout‘s latest hero will speak? Or do you prefer the purist fashion of a silence protagonist?
