Assassins Creed 3 DLC Plans Outed

Kotaku has unearthed some interesting information regarding post launch details of the highly anticipated Assassin’s Creed 3.  According to a leaked letter from GameStop which was sent from Ubisoft after the store in question had hit their pre-order quota, DLC (downloadable content) will play a big part in Assassin’s Creed 3 when it launches on October 30th.

The letter is as follows, “We are currently in the process of creating a complementary development team that will begin working on post-launch episodic content to continue the Game of the Year experience that Assassin’s Creed 3 will undoubtedly deliver.”  While the Assassin’s Creed franchise has usually followed post release with single player content, most recently multiplayer extras have been included as well.  DLC has never played a massive part in the franchise with only small bite sized stories being released, but with a development team of their own behind the creation we could see a massive rise in content.

The letter continues; “With a team dedicated specifically to this content we plan to set the bar for quality DLC in our industry.  We know you’re familiar with the ‘Season Pass’ concept and, beginning shortly, we will start to take pre-orders of our very own.  We’d love your continued assistance in informing pre-order customers that a better value is available for those who pre-order Assassin’s Creed with the ‘Season Pass’.”

With this confirmation, it looks like DLC will be a major focus with this latest title.  Could this just be an influx in multiplayer maps and extras?  Or could there possibly be expansion packs set in the game?  To set the bar for DLC in gaming is no easy task.  I am looking forward to finding out what Ubisoft will do with this.
