‘Arma 3’ Campaign to be Released As 3 Free DLC Episodes

Bohemia Interactive is planning to release the campaign for Arma 3 in 3 free episodes, after the games initial launch.

The episodes will be supplied as free DLC, with the first episode Survive expected to be made available within the first month. The next two episodes titled Adapt and Win, will be released in the following months.

This announcement means Arma 3 will launch with 12 single-player showcase missions, 3 faction showcases, 9 multiplayer scenarios, 10 firing drill challenges, over 20 vehicles, more than 40 weapons, 5 factions, the scenario editor, modding support and the large island masses of Altis and Stratis

Joris-Jan van ‘t Land, Project Lead on Arma 3 elaborated his thoughts on the process.

“This was not a decision we made lightly. As game creators, we love developing and playing through campaigns so, to those awaiting ours, we say: sorry for the delay. After talking a lot about a focus on quality over the last year, it simply did not feel right to compromise now. Rather than pushing back the entire game, we launch this year with an awesome package – a splendid kick off for the Arma 3 experience.”

Bohemia has also admitted the studio has found difficulties with its parallel development schedule, as the team was developing the full game simultaneously as the Alpha and Beta versions.

Bohemia believes this mind-set means they will provide a better quality product, giving them extra time to perfect the games campaign.

If you are interested to hear further explanation regarding Bohemia Interactive’s motives behind the decision, they have published a new developers blog located here.

Arma 3 will release in the third quarter of this year, yet not specific release date has been announced.
