Arma 3 Alpha Announced, Releasing Next Week

Overnight Bohemia Interactive announced their plans for upcoming PC-exclusive tactical military shooter, Arma 3. Starting March 5 Arma 3 will open the games Alpha, for players to test out the game and help developers fix any issues. The Alpha will receive regular updates and will remain open until Arm 3’s beta in the second quarter of this year. The final game will release in Q3 2013.

The Arma 3 Alpha will showcase four missions, limited subset of weapons and vehicles, two multiplayer scenarios, the scenario editor and modding support. The Alpha will take place on Stratis, a small island positioned right off the coast of Arma 3’s main destination ‘Atlis’.

Co-Creative Director on Arma 3, Jay Crowe explains, “The Arma 3 Alpha is a big milestone in the project’s development. Testing early and often puts us on the right track towards improving performance, stability and delivering on our goal of creating a robust final release. It’s also a big opportunity to get the game in the hands of our passionate community, which enables them to start work on their own creations, tailored to the fourth generation of the Real Virtuality engine.”

If you want to take part in the Alpha, players must purchase Arma 3 Digital Deluxe Edition or the Arma 3 Alpha itself. The Deluxe Edition includes a digital soundtrack, digital maps and digital tactical guide which will all be available when the full game is released. Players will also receive a Steam Gift of Arma: Cold War Assault, included entry in the Arma 3 Beta plus a digital copy of the final release.

One week after the initial Alpha release Bohemia Interactive will release a free, limited version of the Alpha which will not include multiplayer or modding support on March 14. Known as Alpha Lite, this constricted version of the Alpha will only be accessible by receiving an invite from players in the full  Alpha 3 Alpha. The Lite version will not allow access to the Beta or a copy of the final game.

Arma 3’s Alpha is available March 5, exclusively on Steam.
